Lewis The Planets, 2001
Iris Print
84 x 84cm, Edition of 10
These were created
by scanning postcards of paintings at the Tate Gallery
in London and then zooming in on a particular point.
They are essentially photographs of tiny portions
of the original postcards, but any real detail is obscured
by the pixelation that occurs at this microscopic
level. At the opposite end of the scale they represent
planets but they have been renamed to form my own
personal art historical solar system. They are Albers,
Blake, Richter, Nicholson, Palmer II, Mondrian,
Matisse, Palmer I, Newman, and Noland.
